Shorter stays (up to 6 months)
If you are not staying in Graz permanently or for more than half a year, shorter rentals are a good option for your stay. You have to expect higher prices for fully equipped and furnished (private) apartments.
Student dorms
There is no accommodation on the campus of the University of Graz - but many of the student dormitories are within walking distance.
A small apartment or room is available from about 300€ per month, depending on the dormitory the prices vary. Leases are usually for one semester or one academic year - but shorter stays may be possible for example during summer and upon request and availability. It is recommended that you apply for a dorm room early.
You can move into a student residence with proof of university affiliation (admission letter, employment contract/confirmation,...).
Private accommodation / Short term rentals
There are some providers who rent out a fully furnished apartment for up to 6 months, for example: www.kurzzeitmiete.at or www.thehomelike.com You can also find accommodation via platforms such as www.airbnb.at or www.booking.com, which are usually fully furnished. You have to expect a higher rent for fully furnished apartments.
Often, rooms in shared apartments are also sublet for up to 6 months via www.willhaben.at or in Facebook groups.
Guest apartments
The University of Graz has 3 guest apartments at Elisabethstraße 85, 8010 Graz. They are intended for short stays of guests only (students cannot book the guest apartments). For insurance and liability reasons, stays with children are not possible.
For booking inquiries, daily/monthly costs and further questions, please contact us and we will put you in touch with the administration of the guest apartments.
Guests and new staff members from abroad can also reserve a room or apartment in the TU Graz Guest House with the support of the inviting institute/center at the University of Graz.
Stays over 6 months
Many people book fully furnished accommodation in advance for the first few weeks or months of their stay (see section above). During this time you can focus on finding a long-term apartment.

Rental agreements
For many apartments it is common to sign a lease for 1-3 years. These contracts can often be extended with consent, or terminated earlier. There are also open-ended leases.
Please make sure you understand and read the terms in the contract before signing. Rental contracts are usually only issued in German.
If you have any legal questions about the contract, please contact either the apartment owners directly or the administration that has been entrusted with the preparation / execution of the contract. You can also seek advice from external institutions, such as the Tenants' Association (subject to a fee) or the Chamber of Labor.
Deposit
Landlords/Landladies may require a deposit. Usually the deposit is 3 months' rent. If you move out and return the apartment or room in good condition, you will get the deposit back.
Furniture
Please note that most long-term apartments are rented unfurnished, except for kitchen and bathroom furniture.
