Opening a bank account
It is often convenient if you have an Austrian bank account, but not always mandatory.
Who needs a bank account?
Staff members of the University of Graz must have a SEPA bank account in order to receive their monthly salary. In order for the payment to be made, the bank has to confirm a form. Please ask at the Human Resources if you need further information.
It is often practical for students to have a bank account in Austria.
Whether or not guest researchers need an account depends on if or not they receive a scholarship that requires an account in Austria.
Valid passport, alternatively also identity card for EU/EEA/Swiss nationals
Confirmation of registered residence ("Meldezettel")
If applicable: visa or residence permit
Austrian telephone number (usually required for e-banking)
Students: Study confirmations (can be donwloaded in Uni Graz Online under "enrolment documents")
Staff members: Employment contract or confirmation of employment and proof of salary (if available)
Guest researchers: for example scholarship confirmation
Banks may ask for additional documents.
