Depending on the country of issue, documents may need to be legalized by the country that issued them. If a legalization is required, you must have the document legalized before submitting it. For more information on types of certification, see "Legalization".
Legalization
Your educational documents will need to be legalized accordingly depending on which country issued them before you submit the application. There are also some countries that do not require document legalization. Do not submit the document until it has been legalized and translated if necessary.
There are three types of legalization: apostille, full diplomatic certification, no legalization. You can find more info here.
Apostille
The apostille is a sticker that is usually placed on the back of the original document. If your documents needs to be legalized by apostille, please inquire in the country of issue of the document where you can have the document legalized (for example: Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, court,...).
Full diplomatic certification
The document must first be legalized by the issuing country, and then additionally authenticated by the competent Austrian representative authority (=embassy). Only the Austrian representative authority responsible for the country can carry out this step. This process can take several months, please allow enough time for it.
Translation
Documents that are not issued in the original German or English must be translated. You must have the documents translated by a professional (court certified translator).
Tuition fees
EU/EEA nationals only pay the student union fee during the minimum duration of studies (~22€ per semester).
Non-EU/EEA nationals have to pay a tuition fee and the student union fee, the total amount is around 750€ per semester. There are some exemptions, you can find more information on this page.
